The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has initiated regulatory procedures for a significant merger in Pakistan’s telecom sector involving Telenor Pakistan and Ufone.
An application has been submitted to the PTA seeking approval for the transfer of all licenses, operations, and assets from Telenor Pakistan (Private) Limited to Pakistan Telecommunication Mobile Limited (PTML), widely known as Ufone. This transfer will lead to a full amalgamation of the two companies.
According to the public notice issued by the PTA, once the merger is finalized and all regulatory approvals are obtained, Ufone will be the surviving entity. Consequently, Telenor Pakistan will cease to exist as a separate licensed company and will no longer operate independently.
The transfer encompasses all mobile cellular licenses and operational assets held by Telenor Pakistan, including liabilities, rights, and obligations. The amalgamation will cover operations across Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K), and Gilgit Baltistan (GB).CCP Chairman Announces PTCL Telenor Merger
To maintain transparency and allow for public participation, the PTA has invited telecom consumers, stakeholders, and interested parties to submit their views and comments regarding the merger. Feedback can be sent in writing to the Director General (Wireless Licensing) at the PTA Headquarters in Islamabad or via email. The deadline for submitting comments is within seven days from the publication of the notice.
This merger marks a major shift in Pakistan’s telecommunications landscape, consolidating two key players into a single entity that aims to streamline operations and enhance service delivery.
