TikTok Launches AI Shopping Assistant and One-Click Checkout
TikTok has introduced two new commerce features aimed at enhancing the shopping experience within its app: an AI shopping assistant and a one-click checkout option. Announced on October 5, these tools are designed to streamline in-app purchases and increase user engagement on the platform.
The AI shopping assistant acts as a conversational agent, helping users discover products and make informed decisions. It understands context, retains user preferences, and offers real-time information about product details, sizing, shipping, and availability. This assistant guides users through the entire buying process without requiring them to leave TikTok, thereby keeping the shopping experience fully integrated within the app.
Complementing this is the one-click checkout feature that allows users to purchase products directly from the For You feed, which is the main algorithm-driven content stream on TikTok. Previously, users had to navigate to a specific marketplace section to complete transactions on TikTok Shop. Now, purchasing is simplified to a single tap, reducing friction between product discovery and final sale.
To support these features, TikTok has partnered with established commerce and payment platforms including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe. These collaborations enable merchants already using these systems to integrate TikTok’s new commerce tools without overhauling their existing payment infrastructure.
These developments come at a time when TikTok Shop is witnessing significant growth. According to a Momentum Works report published in February 2026, TikTok Shop’s gross merchandise value (GMV) in the US reached $15.1 billion in 2025, marking a 68% increase from $9 billion in 2024. Globally, TikTok Shop recorded a GMV of $64.3 billion across 16 markets, with Southeast Asia contributing $45.6 billion of that total.
Moreover, eMarketer estimates that TikTok accounts for approximately 18% of all social commerce sales in the US. The platform’s own Economic Impact Report highlights its influence by stating that it generated $81 billion in GDP for US businesses and that 54 million Americans made purchases after watching TikTok videos.
The new AI assistant and streamlined checkout enable TikTok to build on these figures by making social commerce more conversational and immediate. The social commerce market in the US is expanding rapidly as well, with revenues reaching approximately $107 billion in 2025, up from $39.5 billion in 2021. Launching TikTok Shop in the US in September 2023, the company has quickly positioned itself as a dominant player in the sector.
By integrating AI-powered shopping with a seamless checkout experience, TikTok aims to advance its role in the social commerce landscape and further reduce the gap between product discovery and purchase.
