US selects 17 Pakistani Women for Energy Scholars Program

United States (US) has selected 17 female university students from Pakistan to take part in the Future of Women in Energy Scholars Program.
 
United States Mission Pakistan announced to launch of the inaugural four-week Program.
 
US has attributed the Future of Women in Energy Scholars Program to U.S.-Pakistan Women’s Council (USPWC).
 
The program will begin on June 5.
 
Seventeen brilliant Pakistani university women will participate in this certificate program. They will learn about working in the energy industry.
 
This programme will encourage women’s participation and leadership in Pakistan’s energy sector.
 
It will allow young women to study energy issues and energy infrastructure at Texas A&M University’s Qatar campus.
 
After their two-week programme in Qatar, the students will return to Pakistan for a two-week trip.
 
They will engage with key Pakistani public- and private-sector organisations in Islamabad and Lahore.
 
Students will learn about Pakistan’s energy industry.

The Objectives of the US Energy Scholars Program

 
U.S. Mission Pakistan, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Texas A&M University, and a number of public-sector and private-sector energy employers have co-sponsored this program.
 
The program focuses on advancing women in the energy sector.
 
The programme is a result of the U.S. government’s pledge during the U.S.-Pakistan Energy Dialogue in September 2021.
 
It encourages to promote of women’s educational and economic participation in Pakistan’s energy sector.
 
The selected Pakistani women are currently pursuing bachelor’s degrees in science and engineering.
 
They are pursuing degrees in private and public universities in Pakistan.
 
Donald Blome, U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan expressed excitement to launch the USPWC’s Future of Women in Energy Scholars Program.
 
It is in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and Pakistan.
 
Through this programme, the U.S. Mission in Pakistan assists Pakistani women in pursuing career opportunities in the energy sector and in establishing networks for a prosperous future.
 
Radhika Prabhu, the executive director of the USPWC, stated, “The USPWC Future of Women in Energy Scholars Program will provide young women with hands-on experience in the energy industry. Congratulations to the next generation of leaders!”
 
The U.S.-Pakistan Women’s Council is a public-private partnership that aims to increase women’s economic participation in Pakistan by catalysing commitments from the private sector, civil society, and government leaders in both nations to promote women’s economic empowerment in Pakistan
