A video message by actor Saba Qamar marking World Children’s Day has gone viral, drawing widespread attention to children’s rights in Pakistan.

Wearing a blue UNICEF shirt, the National Ambassador for Child Rights in Pakistan urged the public to “come together” to ensure that every child’s rights are protected.

In her video, posted on social media, Qamar said every child deserves the chance to learn, grow up healthy, live in safety and have a say in decisions that shape their future.

The renwed Pakistani actress stressed that these basic rights must be guaranteed for all children, regardless of background.

Her call comes against the backdrop of alarming statistics. Pakistan has an estimated 19 million child brides, the sixth-highest number in the world.

More than half of adolescent girls become pregnant before the age of 18, posing serious health risks for young mothers and their children.

Qamar encouraged her audience to “turn Pakistan blue” — the symbolic colour of World Children’s Day — as a show of solidarity and awareness.

Saba Qamar said all children should be empowered to speak up and be heard on issues affecting their lives.

The actor was appointed UNICEF’s first National Ambassador for Child Rights in Pakistan in 2024, a role announced on the International Day of the Girl Child.

The day highlights the rights of girls and the challenges many continue to face around the world.

Speaking at the time of her appointment, Qamar said it was an honour to represent UNICEF’s mission.

She pledged to support efforts aimed at ensuring “every right for every child” and said she hoped to help young Pakistanis dream freely and work towards a better future.
