Zong, Jazz, Ufone Acquire 5G Spectrum for $507 Million

Three telecom operators Zong, Jazz and Ufone on Tuesday acquired 5G Spectrum for $507 million..
Zong, Jazz and Ufone have been successful bidders who competed heavily at 2600 megahertz for the key frequency band which is required for the 5G service.

The auction has resulted in increasing spectrum availability by 1.7 percent. Zong has purchased 110 MHz spectrum, Ufone 180 MHz, while Jazz purchased 190 MHz spectrum for total amount of $507 million.
Pakistan had also offered 700 MHz at a price of $32.5 million, 1800 MHz for $16.8m.
It also offered 2100 MHz for $70m, 2300 MHz for $10m, 2600 MHz for $12.50m and 3500 MHz for $6.5m per lot.
PTA Launches Landmark 5G Spectrum Auction to Power Pakistan’s Digital Future
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has successfully inaugurated the Spectrum Auction for Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) / 5G in Pakistan, marking a transformative milestone in the nation’s digital journey.
The prestigious inaugural ceremony was graced by senators, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Mr. Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for information and broadcasting Mr. Attaullah Tarar, Minister for IT & Telecom Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Mr. Syed Amin Ul Haque Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on IT and Telecom, MNAs and alongside government officials, and key telecom industry stakeholders.
Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Muhammad Aurangzeb, highlighted the economic significance of 5G for Pakistan’s future. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting policies that strengthen the telecommunications ecosystem and enable Pakistan to compete in the global digital economy.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister for IT & Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja stated that the government has designed the 5G policy with the objective of enabling sustainable sector growth. She emphasized that the aim is not to maximize upfront auction revenues, but to provide operators with the opportunity to invest in network expansion and infrastructure so that improved and high-quality digital services can be delivered to consumers across Pakistan.
Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, HI (M), SI, highlighted PTA’s commitment to enabling next-generation technologies through a transparent and competitive auction process that will further improve digital services for consumers. He noted that the Authority has taken consumer-centric regulatory measures, including bringing Right of Way (RoW) charges to zero, in order to facilitate faster network rollout and reduce barriers for telecom operators.
The NGMS / 5G spectrum auction represents a significant step toward positioning Pakistan at the forefront of global technological advancement. PTA remains steadfast in its mission to promote innovation, expand digital inclusion, and support sustainable growth of the country’s telecommunications landscape.
