5.7-Magnitude Quake Halts Bangladesh-Ireland Test Match

A 5.7-magnitude earthquake was felt in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on the third day of the second Test between Bangladesh and Ireland, briefly halting the match.

According to cricket website Cricinfo, the tremor struck at around 10:38 am local time during the 56th over of the morning session at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

Players were visibly shaken, and match officials temporarily paused the game as safety protocols were observed.

Spectators and stadium staff, including those in the five-story media centre, evacuated to open areas.

After approximately three minutes, the situation was assessed as safe, and the match resumed, though fans took some time to return to their seats.

Despite the interruption, the cricket continued with Bangladesh having posted a commanding first innings total of 476, thanks to brilliant centuries from Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim.

In reply, the visitors struggled, losing eight wickets for 254 runs. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported among players, match staff, or spectators.
