Sindh Sets Strict Rules for New Vehicle Plates

The Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has once again reminded vehicle owners to promptly replace outdated number plates with newly designed plates introduced under recent regulations.

According to an official notification, motorists continuing to use yellow-colored or older plates beyond the deadline will face heavy fines and strict legal penalties.

The directive covers motorcycles, cars, and both commercial and private vehicles, making compliance across Sindh compulsory to avoid enforcement action starting from the coming month.

Authorities also urged owners who have not yet collected their new number plates from designated centers to complete the process without unnecessary delay.

The Sindh government had previously directed the replacement of plates within a specific timeframe, but many vehicles remain on roads using outdated number plates.

Officials emphasized the new plates are part of broader traffic reforms aimed at enhancing road safety, vehicle monitoring, and overall compliance with provincial transport rules.

The Sindh government had extended the deadline for obtaining Ajrak-designed vehicle number plates from August 14 to October 31 after assembly discussions.

These plates, introduced in 2021, carry special features readable by surveillance cameras under the safe city project, ensuring improved monitoring across Sindh roads.

New centers will soon be established in Korangi, SITE Area, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal to facilitate motorists facing difficulties in acquiring newly designed plates.
