Smog Guidelines Issued for Schools in Punjab
The Punjab government has introduced fresh smog guidelines for schools through the Education Department, announcing urgent steps to protect students during worsening air quality conditions.
A notification sent to District Education Authorities directed schools to suspend outdoor activities, including sports and morning assemblies, whenever smog levels pose potential health risks.
The Punjab Education Department has also launched a province-wide awareness campaign, instructing teachers, students, and parents about safety precautions, including wearing masks, staying hydrated, and avoiding outdoor exposure.
The guidelines further instruct schools to keep classrooms clean and ventilated while ensuring windows remain closed during smog. Garbage burning has been strictly prohibited.
Schools have been ordered to maintain health records of vulnerable students with respiratory conditions, while teachers must remain alert to symptoms caused by smog exposure.
Each district must appoint a focal person to coordinate with local health departments, ensuring a swift response in case of smog-related health emergencies.
