Karachi Police Make First Arrest Using Facial Tech
Karachi police announced that they successfully made the first-ever arrest using facial recognition technology, marking a milestone in law enforcement operations.
DIG Syed Asad Raza explained that the operation started when an emergency response vehicle operator received an alert about a motorcyclist with a criminal history.
The ERV team immediately intercepted the motorcyclist, verified his identity using his CNIC, and confirmed that the suspect was Abdul Azeem.

Abdul Azeem has a long criminal record, including six separate cases involving attempted murder, possession of unlicensed weapons, rioting, terrorism, and prior confrontations with police authorities.
Authorities added that the suspect had also been declared an absconder, showcasing how facial recognition technology can assist law enforcement in tracking and apprehending wanted criminals efficiently.
Police officials emphasized that this arrest represents a major step in incorporating technology into routine policing, ensuring faster identification and enhanced safety across Karachi’s urban areas.
