The Bangladesh Cricket Board has firmly rejected allegations made by Jahanara Alam against national women’s team captain Nigar Sultana, calling them entirely baseless and misleading.
Alam, who last represented Bangladesh in December 2024, claimed during an interview with a local newspaper that Sultana had physically assaulted several of her teammates.
The cricket board promptly issued a response, labeling the accusations as false, fabricated, and harmful to the unity and reputation of the national women’s team.
In a formal statement, the BCB said it was deeply disappointed by the remarks, describing them as an effort to disrupt the growing cohesion and morale of the team.
The statement noted that the timing and intent behind the allegations appeared ill-motivated, particularly as the team continues to show consistent improvement internationally.
Officials from the board emphasized that Jahanara currently holds no professional involvement in Bangladesh cricket and that no credible evidence supports her claims.
The board reiterated that it maintains complete confidence in the leadership, integrity, and professionalism of the national women’s team and its captain.

Reaffirming its support for Nigar Sultana, the BCB urged the public to ignore unsubstantiated reports that could damage the confidence and reputation of its players.
Bangladesh recently participated in the Women’s World Cup hosted across India and Sri Lanka, where they finished seventh out of eight competing teams.
Although the overall result was below expectations, the team earned praise for challenging stronger opponents such as England, South Africa, and Sri Lanka with spirited performances.
Their only victory in the tournament came against Pakistan, which highlighted their resilience and fighting spirit despite facing experienced and higher-ranked international sides.
The BCB stated that such progress reflects the commitment and discipline within the squad, which continues to grow stronger with every international assignment they undertake.
It added that baseless controversies distract from the team’s ongoing efforts to elevate Bangladesh’s standing in global women’s cricket through hard work and consistency.
The board also assured that it remains committed to ensuring a positive environment for all players, fostering respect, and encouraging professional growth within the squad.
