FBR extends deadline, offers special facilitation for manual tax-filers
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced on Wednesday to facilitate the manual tax-filers who historically filed manual income-tax returns and extended a deadline for online filing.

Under the measure, the manual-filing system has reportedly been abolished for Tax Year 2024 onwards, and in order to accommodate taxpayers struggling with the shift, the FBR has set up dedicated assistance cells in all regional tax offices offering free legal and technical support.
The filing deadline for these manual-filers has been extended to 30 November 2025 under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, the authority said.
Officials said the move is part of a broader push to digitise tax compliance, simplify processes for taxpayers, and reduce reliance on paper-based systems. However, challenges remain as some taxpayers may lack familiarisation with the online portal or registration procedures.
Analysts say that while the facilitation helps ease the transition, the FBR will still need to maintain outreach and system capacity to prevent bottlenecks and ensure that taxpayers who previously used manual filing are not disadvantaged by the digital shift.
