The Ministry of Climate Change released the Monsoon Strategic Plan 2026, highlighting flood risks and preventive measures for Pakistan.
The plan identifies five types of floods the country may face: riverine floods, hill torrents, urban flooding, glacial bursts, and coastal storms.
It warns that 55 districts are at high risk, with 15 districts in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan particularly vulnerable.
To reduce risks, the government proposed real-time water monitoring, building small dams, and improving drainage and waste management.

Authorities also plan to take strict action against encroachments that block natural waterways.
Early warning systems and hazard maps will alert communities, while the plan emphasizes strengthening coastal mangrove forests.
Coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is also emphasised to ensure pre-emptive measures are taken.
The ministry said these measures could reduce flood losses, protect lives, and improve water management, boosting the resilience Pakistan.
