Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a province-wide plan to establish cardiac catheterisation laboratories in every district of Punjab, bringing advanced care.

On her directions, cardiac catheterisation laboratories will soon become functional at district headquarters hospitals in Jhang, Mianwali and Vehari, initially under the project.

Officials said the initiative marks an unprecedented expansion of cardiac catheterisation laboratories into district hospitals across Punjab’s public healthcare system, statewide access programme.

In the second phase, cardiac catheterisation laboratories will be activated in Bhakkar, Chakwal, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Mandi Bahauddin, Rajanpur and Toba Tek Singh.

Each district cardiac catheterisation laboratory will provide angiography, angioplasty and primary PCI services to support timely treatment of heart patients locally across Punjab.

The chief minister said district cardiac catheterisation laboratories can prevent serious complications by enabling rapid intervention during critical cardiac emergencies, statewide coverage.

She explained that reaching a district cardiac catheterisation laboratory within 60 to 90 minutes of a heart attack can save lives consistently across districts.

With cardiac catheterisation laboratories established in every district, heart attack patients will no longer need emergency travel to major cities for treatment purposes.

The chief minister said district-level cardiac catheterisation laboratories will reduce pressure on major hospitals and strengthen Punjab’s overall healthcare delivery system capacity significantly.

She directed authorities to appoint specialist cardiac doctors at district hospitals, approving a special pay package for cardiac catheterisation laboratories staff retention initiatives.

Maryam Nawaz said cardiac catheterisation laboratories in every district will deliver world-class treatment in line with international standard operating procedures across Punjab.
