The government has set a strict deadline for petrol pumps to install Automatic Tank Gauging (ATG) systems as part of a nationwide plan to digitalize the oil supply chain.

All oil marketing companies have been instructed to ensure ATG installation on storage tanks at petrol pumps by February 10, 2026, aiming to improve transparency and government revenue.

Petrol pumps failing to comply with the deadline will face restrictions, including denial of new licenses and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the Department of Explosives.

The Petroleum Division highlighted that the ATG systems will monitor fuel flow from storage tanks to pumps, digitizing sales and reducing unaccounted losses across the sector.

Officials added that proper implementation of ATG systems will increase legal fuel sales, prevent theft, and ensure accurate taxation, thereby boosting government revenue.

The move is also expected to modernize the oil sector’s infrastructure by encouraging adoption of digital monitoring tools in petrol pump operations.

Authorities emphasized that only legally compliant petrol pumps will remain operational, reinforcing oversight, improving reporting, and curbing fuel diversion throughout the supply chain.
