The Sindh education department has banned the use of school premises for residential or commercial purposes, saying private school buildings must be used for education.
The department said establishing shops or residential units within school premises constitutes a serious legal violation and would not be permitted under any circumstances.
It announced inspections of all private schools, requiring submission of structural fitness certificates and directing institutions operating in unsafe or dilapidated buildings to vacate immediately.
The department warned violations could lead to suspension or cancellation of registration, while schools engaged in non-educational activities may also be sealed.

It added that full responsibility would rest with school administrations if any accident occurred within premises during such prohibited use activities there.
Separately, the Sindh government issued strict fire safety directives for private schools, reinforcing compliance through the Directorate of Inspection and Registration Institutions.
The directives mandate fire alarms, smoke detectors and extinguishers, clear emergency exits and staircases, regular electrical inspections, and prominently displayed fire evacuation plans.
