Officials and ceremony
- The event was attended by Director General Excise & Taxation and Narcotics Control Abdul Haleem Khan, other departmental directors and excise officers.
- Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar-uz-Zaman described the choice number plates initiative as distinctive and said strong public interest made the auction successful; he also congratulated the successful bidders and indicated more auctions will be held in future.
The provincial government launched a project to offer preferred vehicle registration numbers — many reflecting ethnic, tribal or district names — for public bidding. The initiative is intended both to satisfy public demand for personalised plates and to generate revenue for the province. This auction was the second round under the scheme, and officials reported high participation from citizens and public figures.
Authorities have signalled further rounds of bidding; follow-up items to monitor include the schedule for additional auctions, whether revenues from future sales match or exceed this day’s Rs47 crore and Rs3 lakh, and any regulatory or transparency measures announced around allocation and use of proceeds. Also watch for confirmation of full sale lists and any legal or administrative challenges from unsuccessful bidders.
