Chelsea Halt Six-Game Slide with Draw at Liverpool

Chelsea ended a troubling six-match losing streak in the Premier League by securing a 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday. The result marked the first point gained by caretaker manager Calum MacFarlane since taking charge of the Blues.
Liverpool took an early lead through Ryan Gravenberch, who struck a stunning shot from the edge of the box after cutting inside from the left. The goal set Liverpool on course to maintain their position in fourth place with 59 points from 36 games, inching closer towards Champions League qualification.
Chelsea, who are ninth in the table with 49 points from the same number of matches, responded well to their recent poor form. Their equaliser came on the 35th minute when Enzo Fernandez curled a well-placed free kick into the bottom corner. Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili appeared to be distracted by a Chelsea defender’s movement, allowing the ball to slip into the net.
Both sides had further opportunities ruled out due to offside calls during the game. Liverpool were denied a late winner as efforts from Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk struck the woodwork. Despite their attacking pressure, Liverpool could not break the deadlock before the final whistle.
Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella expressed cautious optimism following the match. “The effort today was really good,” he told TNT Sports. “We showed that if we play together and fight, we have a good level. We hope to gain confidence from this and build on it heading into our upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City. While we wanted the three points, we’re pleased to have shown we’re a strong team when we put in the effort collectively.”
The game was not without its tensions, as Liverpool manager Arne Slot faced boos from the home fans after substituting promising young talent Rio Ngumoh for Alexander Isak midway through the second half.
Despite the draw, Liverpool continues their pursuit of Champions League qualification, while Chelsea seek to recover momentum as the season reaches crucial stages. With the FA Cup final approaching, Chelsea’s encouraging performance at Anfield could offer a vital boost.
