Thunder Lead Lakers 3-0; Cavs Narrow Series Deficit

The Oklahoma City Thunder delivered an impressive second-half performance to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 131-108 on Saturday, securing a commanding 3-0 lead in their NBA Western Conference semi-final series. Ajay Mitchell led the Thunder with 24 points and 10 assists, maintaining a clean sheet without any turnovers.

The Lakers, battling without injured scoring leader Luka Doncic, struggled to keep pace. Although Rui Hachimura scored 21 points and LeBron James contributed 19 points, six rebounds, and eight assists, the team was unable to halt the Thunder’s momentum. The Thunder’s depth proved decisive as they overcame the depleted Lakers squad.

Lakers coach JJ Redick remained optimistic ahead of Monday’s game four in Los Angeles, stating, “I’m not giving up on this series. We’re going to try to win on Monday, extend the series, and take this back to Oklahoma City.” The Lakers will attempt to become the first NBA team to recover from a 3-0 deficit in a playoff series.

Despite the Thunder’s star, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, shooting 23 points on seven of 20 shooting, second-year guard Mitchell’s performance was critical. Gilgeous-Alexander praised Mitchell as “a gamer” and highlighted the team’s collective strength.

The Thunder pulled away decisively in the third quarter, opening the half with a 21-6 run. The Lakers’ shooting faltered, hitting just eight of 22 attempts and only one three-pointer in the period. Turnovers mounted for the Lakers, allowing the Thunder to extend their lead to as much as 27 points in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers secured a vital 116-109 win against the Detroit Pistons in game three, reducing their series deficit to 2-1. Donovan Mitchell starred for the Cavs with 35 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists, while James Harden contributed 19 points, including nine crucial points in the final quarter.

Harden, who had faced criticism for his earlier playoff performances, said, “Chatter is going to be chatter regardless. Whether you do something good or bad, you give me opportunities in this fourth quarter, and I take advantage of them.” The Cavs’ victory kept their home playoff unbeaten streak intact.

Detroit’s Cade Cunningham recorded a 27-point triple-double with 10 rebounds and 10 assists but could not lift the Pistons to victory. The Cavaliers led comfortably at halftime and managed to hold off a late Pistons surge. Cleveland will host game four on Monday aiming to level the series.
