Pakistan Plans Bold Chase in Bangladesh Test, Says Agha

Pakistan all-rounder Salman Ali Agha has articulated an ambitious approach for the final day of the opening Test against Bangladesh, expressing confidence in his team’s ability to chase a competitive target if the opportunity arises.

During a post-day press conference, Agha revealed Pakistan’s intention to dismiss Bangladesh as swiftly as possible and pursue a victory in challenging conditions. “We just want to get them out as quickly as possible. That’s our strategy,” he stated.

Agha mentioned that Pakistan is prepared to chase around 260 runs within 70 overs. He also voiced doubts regarding Bangladesh’s willingness to set such a target, suggesting that the hosts may not be bold enough to take on the challenge. “We will go for the win. If they are brave enough to do that, give us 70 overs and 260, we will definitely go for the chase. I don’t think so, they will do that,” he added.

Reflecting on the rain-affected fourth day of the Test at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Agha acknowledged that Bangladesh would need to accelerate the scoring rate significantly to challenge Pakistan’s position. “They have to score 100 in 20 overs. If they want to do that, it’s brilliant – it’s going to be very risky. Personally, I want them to do that, give 260 or 270 in 70 overs. Somehow I think they won’t,” he remarked.

On the fourth day, Bangladesh closed at 152 for 3 in their second innings, taking their overall lead to 179 runs with one day left in the match. Najmul Hossain Shanto showcased composure amidst pressure, remaining unbeaten on 58, while veteran Mushfiqur Rahim supported him with 16 runs as they stalled Pakistan’s advances. Despite rain wiping out the entire second session post-lunch, the pair managed to extend their third-wicket partnership to 105 runs.

Pakistan’s breakthrough came through Shaheen Shah Afridi, who dismissed Mominul Haque for 56 off 120 balls. Following this, Mushfiqur partnered with Shanto, and they guarded their wickets carefully until bad light caused an early end to the day’s play.

The match remains finely balanced, with Pakistan’s aggressive chase plan set against Bangladesh’s strategic batting as the contest heads towards its conclusion.
