Jetour T2 Wins 2026 South African Car of the Year

Jetour’s mid-size SUV, the T2, has been officially named the 2026 South African Car of the Year (COTY), marking a significant achievement for the Chinese automaker in a highly competitive market.

The South African market is known for its challenging terrain and driving conditions, characterized by a mix of rugged off-road paths and demanding weather, including intense heat. It also shares similarities with Pakistan in terms of driving environment and preference for durable, utility-focused vehicles. The Jetour T2’s triumph over established automotive giants in this environment is a strong endorsement of its performance and reliability.

The COTY award jury evaluated the T2 on criteria beyond just specifications, including build quality, safety, and overall utility. The T2 holds a 5-star safety rating and combines robust engineering with advanced technology, factors that contributed to its win. This recognition is particularly relevant for Pakistani consumers who are considering the T2 amid debates regarding its suitability for local roads.

Launched earlier this year by Jetour Pakistan, the T2 sports a muscular, boxy design reminiscent of the Land Rover Defender and is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine delivering over 250 horsepower and 390 Nm of torque. It features a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and an intelligent four-wheel-drive system.

Inside the cabin, the T2 offers premium features including a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver display, a panoramic sunroof, level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera, and high-quality soft-touch materials. It aims to compete with other premium midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Santa Fe, Haval H6, and Toyota Fortuner.

Priced at approximately PKR 2.12 crore in Pakistan, the Jetour T2 positions itself as a luxury offering with proven global credentials. The South African Car of the Year accolade is expected to strengthen its reputation and reassure buyers about its capability and durability in demanding environments.

This international recognition may influence the Pakistani market positively as the T2 prepares to carve its niche amidst a growing demand for capable, tech-rich SUVs that can handle diverse driving conditions.
