sui gas connection transfer and name change

Sui Gas Connection Transfer and Name Change Guide 2026

Sobia Sultan

A Sui gas connection should be transferred when a property is sold, inherited or legally occupied by a new consumer. A simple spelling mistake, however, usually needs a name correction rather than a full ownership transfer.Sui Gas Connection Transfer and Name Change Guide is here for you if you are customers of SNGPL and SSGC.

SNGPL customers can apply for a connection transfer through the company’s website or its regional and sub-regional offices. SSGC customers should submit their name-change request through the relevant Customer Facilitation Center, or CFC.

The documents depend on your case. A buyer, tenant and legal heir will not submit the same file.

Quick answer: Keep your CNIC, last paid gas bill, property documents and consumer number ready. SNGPL’s official change-of-name document also requires an affidavit on Rs100 non-judicial stamp paper, an attested sale deed and an application addressed to the Chief Sales Officer.

This guide explains the verified 2026 procedure for SNGPL and SSGC consumers across Pakistan.

Is Your Gas Connection Under SNGPL or SSGC?

Pakistan’s two main gas distribution companies serve different areas. Consumers do not choose between them. The location of the property determines the company.

SNGPL service areas

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited serves:

  • Punjab
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
  • Islamabad Capital Territory
  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir

This includes cities such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Peshawar, Mardan and Abbottabad.

SSGC service areas

Sui Southern Gas Company serves:

  • Sindh
  • Balochistan

Its network includes Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Larkana, Quetta, Hub and other connected areas.

Still not sure which company handles your connection? Look at the logo printed at the top of your existing gas bill. The consumer number, company name and complaint details will also appear there.

What Is a Sui Gas Connection Transfer?

A connection transfer changes the name of the registered consumer because the person legally responsible for the property or gas account has changed.

You may need a transfer after:

  • Buying a house, flat or commercial property
  • Receiving a property through inheritance
  • Receiving a property as a gift
  • A court-approved transfer
  • Moving into a rented property where the owner permits a tenant connection
  • A change in the person legally responsible for the premises

The transfer does not move the meter to another property. It changes the consumer record attached to the existing premises.

Gas Connection Transfer vs Name Correction

People often use “name change” for two different requests.

Connection transfer

A connection transfer replaces the existing registered consumer with another person. Ownership or lawful occupancy must be established.

For example, Salman buys a house in Faisalabad, but the gas bill still carries the seller’s name. Salman needs a connection transfer.

Name correction

A correction fixes an error in the record of the same consumer.

Common examples include:

  • Incorrect spelling
  • Missing surname
  • Wrong father’s or husband’s name
  • Typing mistake in the address
  • Difference between the gas bill and CNIC spelling

A spelling correction should not normally be treated as a property transfer. Take the original CNIC and a copy of the bill to the relevant office. The company may request an application or another supporting document.

Before submitting your file: Tell the counter staff whether you need a “change of consumer” or only a “correction in the existing consumer’s name.”

Documents Required for an SNGPL Gas Connection Transfer

SNGPL’s official change-of-name specimen lists the following documents:

  • Application addressed to the Chief Sales Officer
  • Affidavit executed on Rs100 non-judicial stamp paper
  • Copy of the sale deed attested by an Oath Commissioner
  • Copy of the last paid gas bill
  • Copy of the purchaser’s CNIC

The affidavit declares that the applicant has purchased the property, the former consumer has vacated it, and the information supplied is correct. SNGPL may disconnect the supply if material information is found to be false.

Applicants should read the affidavit before signing it. Do not sign a blank stamp paper or let an unofficial agent prepare statements you have not reviewed.

You can consult the official SNGPL change-of-name affidavit and document list.

Additional documents that may be requested

The basic file may change according to the property and transfer type. Keep these documents available where relevant:

  • Original CNIC for verification
  • Property registry
  • Mutation or intiqal
  • Fard-e-malkiat
  • Allotment or transfer letter
  • Possession letter
  • Registered gift deed
  • Court order
  • Death certificate
  • Succession certificate or legal-heir document
  • Tenancy agreement
  • Landlord’s NOC
  • Electricity bill showing the same property address
  • No-dues evidence
  • Housing society or development-authority documents, if applicable

These are not universal requirements for every applicant. The regional office may request one or more documents when the standard sale deed does not clearly establish the applicant’s legal connection with the property.

Documents for an SSGC Name Change

SSGC publishes a name-change resolution time, but its public website does not provide an equally clear, dedicated 2026 checklist for every type of domestic name transfer.

An SSGC applicant should normally begin with:

  • Written name-change application
  • Valid CNIC of the new applicant
  • Existing gas bill
  • Last paid gas bill
  • Consumer or customer number
  • Attested property or ownership documents
  • Tenancy agreement and landlord NOC for a tenant, where applicable
  • Death and legal-heir documents for an inheritance case
  • Affidavit or declaration requested by the CFC

SSGC’s current domestic-connection documentation accepts attested ownership documents. For tenants, it asks for a tenancy agreement with the landlord’s NOC. Its forms also use affidavits or undertakings on Rs100 stamp paper. However, a new-connection checklist should not automatically be treated as a universal name-transfer checklist.

Visit or call the relevant CFC before preparing stamp papers. This small step can prevent a second journey.

Find the current location and telephone number through the official SSGC Customer Facilitation Center directory.

How to Transfer an SNGPL Gas Connection Online

SNGPL introduced an online facility for transferring existing gas connections. Its official FAQ also says an application may be filed through the website or at the Business Development Section of a regional or sub-regional office.

SNGPL online transfer process

  1. Open the official SNGPL website.
  2. Go to Customer Services and then Online Services.
  3. Select Transfer of Gas Connection.
  4. Enter the consumer number or account ID from the existing bill.
  5. Check the property and consumer information displayed on the screen.
  6. Enter the new applicant’s name exactly as it appears on the CNIC.
  7. Add the correct CNIC number, issue date, mobile number and email address.
  8. Select the applicable transfer type.
  9. Upload clear copies of the required documents.
  10. Complete the captcha and submit the application.
  11. Save the reference or tracking number.

Use a working mobile number. Do not enter the number of a property dealer, document writer or agent. The company may use the applicant’s contact details for verification or status updates.

How should documents be scanned?

Make each page readable. All four corners should appear in the scan.

Avoid:

  • Blurred CNIC images
  • Cropped sale-deed pages
  • Dark photographs
  • Password-protected PDFs
  • Files with missing pages
  • Screenshots compressed through WhatsApp several times
  • Documents in the wrong applicant’s name

If a document contains several pages, combine them in the correct order when the portal allows one PDF upload. Follow the file-size and format instructions displayed on the live portal.

Can an SNGPL application be submitted at an office?

Yes. Take the complete file to the Business Development Section of the relevant regional or sub-regional SNGPL office.

Ask for:

  • An acknowledgment
  • Application or diary number
  • Date of submission
  • Name of the receiving section
  • Information about any missing document

SNGPL’s head office is at Gas House, 21-Kashmir Road, P.O. Box 56, Lahore 54000. Its customer service numbers include 042-99082000-06 and 042-99080000. The company also publishes 1199 as its helpline.

The head office should not automatically be your first stop. A property in Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad or Peshawar will normally be handled through the relevant regional setup. Check the official SNGPL website and office information before travelling.

How to Change the Consumer Name with SSGC

During our July 2026 verification, SSGC’s website did not show a dedicated public self-service form equivalent to SNGPL’s connection-transfer portal.

SSGC customers should use the company’s official CFC network.

SSGC name-change process

  1. Find the CFC that serves your area.
  2. Call the listed number if your case involves inheritance, tenancy or disputed ownership.
  3. Prepare the application and supporting documents.
  4. Take the original CNIC for verification.
  5. Submit copies at the CFC helpdesk.
  6. Obtain an acknowledgment or complaint number.
  7. Keep the number until the changed name appears on a bill.
  8. Follow up if two billing cycles pass after submission of a complete file.

SSGC officially lists two billing cycles as the resolution time for a name change after a complete application and documents have been received. Check SSGC’s published resolution timelines.

How to Transfer a Gas Connection After Buying a Property

A buyer should apply after completing the legal property transfer.

Prepare:

  • Buyer’s CNIC
  • Last paid gas bill
  • Sale deed or registry
  • Attested copy of the ownership document
  • Rs100 affidavit for an SNGPL change of name
  • Application to the appropriate company office
  • Consumer number

Check whether old gas dues remain against the premises. A property purchase does not make unpaid utility history disappear from the company’s billing system.

Do you need the seller’s NOC?

SNGPL simplified its process by introducing an online transfer facility and reducing the dependence on the previous consumer’s cooperation in straightforward ownership cases. The company’s published change-of-name checklist relies on the sale deed, affidavit, paid bill, purchaser’s CNIC and application.

Still, unusual cases may require more evidence. Examples include:

  • An unregistered sale
  • Joint ownership
  • A disputed title
  • A missing chain of ownership
  • Property documents that do not match the meter address

Do not obtain a seller’s NOC merely because an agent says it is always mandatory. Ask the relevant company office which document is required for your particular case.

How to Transfer a Gas Connection After the Consumer’s Death

An inheritance case needs more care because a death certificate alone does not establish which heir may control the property.

Start with:

  • Death certificate of the registered consumer
  • CNIC of the applicant
  • Last paid gas bill
  • Property ownership record
  • Legal-heir, succession or inheritance document applicable to the case
  • Consent or authority where several heirs are involved
  • Affidavit or declaration required by the gas company

The heirs should decide whose name will appear on the gas account before filing the application. The gas company changes its consumer record. It does not decide an inheritance dispute.

If the property remains jointly inherited, ask the relevant office what form of authority or consent it will accept.

Can a Tenant Transfer a Gas Connection to Their Name?

A tenant may request a connection in their name, subject to the company’s rules and the owner’s permission.

A tenant should keep:

  • Valid CNIC
  • Registered or valid tenancy agreement
  • Landlord’s NOC
  • Landlord’s ownership proof
  • Existing and last paid gas bill
  • Tenant affidavit, if requested
  • Owner’s contact details

Do not assume that a tenant automatically receives the benefit of a deposit held under another consumer’s name. Ask the company to explain whether a fresh or adjusted security deposit applies before making a payment.

Any company charge should appear on an official demand notice, receipt or bill. Avoid cash payments to an unofficial facilitator.

What If the Property Address and Gas Bill Do Not Match?

Address mismatches cause delays. They are common in:

  • Old urban settlements
  • Villages with changing mauza details
  • Properties identified through khasra numbers
  • Housing societies that renumber plots
  • Houses divided into upper and lower portions
  • Streets renamed by a local authority
  • Properties with old postal addresses

Take documents that connect the two descriptions. These may include a mutation, fard, society letter, municipal record, electricity bill, approved map or previous ownership document.

Write a short explanation in the application. Do not alter a document or overwrite an address by hand.

Is Meter Shifting the Same as a Name Change?

No. Meter shifting and connection transfer are different requests.

Name change

This changes the registered consumer.

Meter shifting

This physically moves the meter, regulator or service position. A technical team may need to inspect the proposed location.

SSGC lists “Shifting of Gas Meter” separately from “Name Change” in its complaint and service categories. Therefore, submit a separate request if you need both services.

Moving a meter without company approval can create a safety issue and may breach the gas company’s rules. Never hire a local plumber to move company-owned metering equipment.

Name Change, Meter Shifting and Reconnection Are Separate

A disconnected meter does not automatically become active after the consumer’s name changes.

SSGC states that a consumer seeking restoration after paying outstanding dues should provide a copy of the paid bill and CNIC at a CFC. If disconnection lasted less than six months, restoration is generally listed within 24 hours after submission of the paid bill. A disconnection lasting more than six months may require a survey and can take seven to ten days. Read the official SSGC FAQs.

These timelines apply to restoration conditions described by SSGC. They should not be confused with the two-billing-cycle name-change timeline.

Sui Gas Connection Transfer Fee in 2026

A single universal 2026 transfer fee could not be verified from current public material for both companies.

Applicants should budget for incidental document costs such as:

  • Non-judicial stamp paper
  • Oath Commissioner attestation
  • Certified property copies
  • Photocopies and scans
  • Applicable security deposit or adjustment, if formally demanded

Do not publish or rely on an unofficial fixed fee without a current company notification.

How can you avoid an unofficial charge?

  • Submit documents yourself where possible.
  • Ask for an official demand notice.
  • Pay only through an authorized channel.
  • Obtain a receipt.
  • Check the next bill for any adjustment.
  • Report anyone demanding money without documentation.

How Long Does a Gas Connection Name Change Take?

For SSGC, the published service timeline is two billing cycles after receipt of a complete application and documents.

An exact universal SNGPL completion time was not confirmed in the official material reviewed for this guide. Processing may depend on:

  • Completeness of the file
  • Ownership verification
  • Outstanding dues
  • Incorrect CNIC details
  • Inheritance documents
  • Address mismatch
  • Need for additional verification
  • Regional workload

The clock should not be treated as having started if the office has asked for a missing document.

Common Reasons a Transfer Application Is Delayed

A complete file saves time. Most avoidable problems arise from documents that do not agree with each other.

Check for these issues before submission:

  • Unpaid previous bills
  • Expired or unreadable CNIC
  • Applicant’s name entered differently from the CNIC
  • Consumer number typed incorrectly
  • Missing pages of the property deed
  • Sale deed not attested where attestation is required
  • Affidavit on the wrong stamp paper
  • Unsigned affidavit
  • Meter address different from the property record
  • Missing landlord NOC
  • Missing inheritance documents
  • Joint heirs who have not authorized one applicant
  • Wrong mobile number
  • Name-correction request filed as a full transfer
  • Meter-shifting request filed as a name change

Final file check: Place the application first, followed by CNIC, gas bill, ownership proof, affidavit and case-specific documents. Keep one complete copy for yourself.

What Should You Do If the Application Is Not Processed?

First, follow up with the company using the acknowledgment or reference number.

For SNGPL:

  • Call 1199
  • Contact the regional or sub-regional office
  • Use the official customer-feedback channel
  • Keep the online application reference

For SSGC:

  • Visit or call the relevant CFC
  • Use the official complaints channel
  • Quote the acknowledgment or complaint number
  • Refer to the published two-billing-cycle name-change timeline

If the company does not resolve a properly filed complaint, you may approach the Federal Ombudsman, also known as Wafaqi Mohtasib, through its official complaint mechanism. Keep the company complaint record because it shows that you first gave the utility a chance to resolve the matter.

Safety and Environmental Responsibility During a Transfer

A change of consumer does not change the physical safety condition of the connection.

When taking possession of a house:

  • Check for the smell of gas.
  • Keep vents open around gas appliances.
  • Do not cover the meter or regulator.
  • Do not build a wall around company equipment.
  • Do not attach electrical wiring to gas pipes.
  • Use a qualified person for internal appliance work.
  • Report a suspected leak immediately.
  • Never test a leak with a flame.

The meter and regulator remain part of the regulated gas-supply setup. A buyer or tenant should not move, open or alter them.

Efficient gas use also matters. Repair leaking taps and appliances, keep burners clean, and turn off appliances when they are not needed. These steps reduce waste and lower safety risks inside the property.

Sui Gas Connection Transfer Checklist

Before leaving for the office, confirm that you have:

  • Correct consumer number
  • Original CNIC
  • CNIC copy
  • Existing gas bill
  • Last paid gas bill
  • Ownership or tenancy documents
  • Attested sale deed, where applicable
  • Rs100 affidavit for an SNGPL transfer
  • Death and heir documents, if applicable
  • Landlord NOC, if applicable
  • Working mobile number
  • One duplicate file
  • Application acknowledgment after submission

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I transfer an SNGPL gas connection online?

Yes. SNGPL provides an online facility for transferring an existing gas connection. You may also submit the application through the Business Development Section of the relevant regional or sub-regional office.

Can I change an SSGC gas connection name online?

During our July 2026 verification, no dedicated public SSGC self-service name-change portal equivalent to SNGPL’s transfer facility was located. Use an official SSGC Customer Facilitation Center and confirm the current submission channel before travelling.

Which documents does SNGPL officially require for a change of name?

SNGPL’s published specimen lists an application to the Chief Sales Officer, an affidavit on Rs100 stamp paper, an attested sale deed, a last paid gas bill and the purchaser’s CNIC.

How long does an SSGC name change take?

SSGC publishes a timeline of two billing cycles after it receives the complete application and documents.

Can I transfer a gas connection if the old owner has unpaid bills?

Outstanding dues can stop or delay the process. Ask the company for the account position and clear verified dues through an authorized payment channel.

Does a legal heir need a succession certificate?

The exact inheritance document depends on the property record and family circumstances. Take the death certificate, applicant’s CNIC, property documents and available legal-heir or succession evidence. Confirm the final requirement with the relevant office.

Can a tenant put the gas bill in their name?

A tenant may apply subject to company rules and the owner’s permission. A tenancy agreement, landlord NOC, applicant’s CNIC and property documents may be required.

Is a spelling correction the same as a gas connection transfer?

No. A correction fixes the existing consumer’s details. A transfer replaces the registered consumer with another person.

Can I move the gas meter while changing the name?

Meter shifting is a separate technical service. Submit a separate request and wait for company approval. Do not move the meter privately.

Is there an official gas connection transfer fee?

A single current transfer fee applicable to both companies could not be confirmed from the official public material reviewed. Ask for an official demand notice or receipt before paying any charge.

What should I do if I lose the application reference number?

Contact the office where you applied. Provide the consumer number, applicant’s CNIC, mobile number and approximate submission date. A saved screenshot or acknowledgment copy makes tracing easier.

Can a gas connection be transferred between two different properties?

No. A name transfer applies to the connection at its existing premises. Moving service to another property involves a different technical and legal process.

Take the Right File on Your First Visit

A Sui gas connection transfer becomes difficult when the ownership record, CNIC and meter address tell different stories. Start with the last paid bill. Match the applicant’s name with the CNIC. Then add the document that proves the applicant’s legal relationship with the property.

SNGPL customers can begin through the official online transfer service or their regional office. SSGC consumers should use the official CFC network. In both cases, keep an acknowledgment and never pay an undocumented charge.

Need to check the consumer number before applying? Use the number printed on your latest SNGPL or SSGC bill. Keep it ready before opening an online service or calling the company.

This guide was independently checked against official SNGPL and SSGC material available on July 31, 2026. It is not affiliated with either gas company. Procedures, office addresses and document requirements may change. Confirm case-specific requirements through the relevant company before purchasing stamp paper or travelling to an office.
