Action Planned Against Officers Concealing Dual Nationality

The Establishment Division has submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister’s Office aiming to initiate action against government officials who have failed to declare their dual nationality status.

Scope and Details of the Initiative

The request primarily focuses on officers serving in senior grades 20, 21, and 22. Upon the Prime Minister’s approval, affected officials will receive show-cause notices demanding explanations for their nondisclosure. Those found guilty could face penalties including denial of promotions, compulsory retirement, or dismissal from their positions.

Out of a total of 2,917 officers, approximately 62.5% have not yet submitted the mandatory declarations. Among the officials who complied, only 8.68% reported holding citizenship in more than one country.

Departments Involved and Importance for Pakistan

The officers who are yet to file declarations come from various key services including the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), Secretariat Group, and Office Management Group (OMG). This move underscores the government’s emphasis on transparency and accountability within public service, crucial for maintaining integrity and national security.

For Pakistani citizens, this initiative highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring officials remain loyal and transparent, preventing conflicts of interest that could arise from undisclosed foreign ties. It also serves to strengthen institutional trust and reinforce ethical standards within the bureaucracy.

In the words of a government source, “This step is aimed at upholding the highest standards of accountability in public service.”
