KARACHI: Experts are urging industry and academia to adopt modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and solutions to enhance research, development, and productivity across various fields, including business and academics.
Speaking at the seminar “Emerging Trends in Social Science Studies” organized by the University of Karachi, AI expert Adnan Zaidi highlighted that the field of artificial intelligence will continue to explore new domains to assist human efforts in achieving productivity with maximum accuracy and efficiency in a short period.
He noted that utilizing AI provides a competitive edge in the long term for industries and media alike.
“For instance,” he said, “an AI tool could read hundreds of newspapers and categorize news in seconds, a task that would take a researcher years to complete.”
He mentioned that AI tools and solutions are replacing the human workforce in various areas, including industries. Consequently, the role of human talent will shift to creative tasks such as critical thinking, strategic planning, and decision-making.
“AI is an evolving field that has achieved about 30% of its potential so far. Its capabilities will be explored up to 70% by globally renowned companies by 2030,” said Dr. Adnan Zaidi, CEO of Proxima AI.
Another AI expert, Dr. Umair Arif, stated that while AI will inevitably replace various jobs and trades in the future, it will also create opportunities for humans to switch to more productive and facilitative roles.
“Several professions may become irrelevant, but numerous new ones will emerge in the next few years. People should not fear AI; instead, they should learn to use it effectively,” he remarked.Airlink Announces Launch of Xiaomi TVs in July 2024
He noted that Pakistani industries are slowly adopting AI solutions, but many are reluctant due to the investment required in technology.
“The utilization of technology will give companies a competitive edge over their global competitors,” said Dr. Umair Arif, AI consultant at Hexalyze.
Dr. Fauzia Naz, while chairing a session on AI integration in the media, emphasized that AI poses a significant challenge to academics, especially in assessments of research and learning, as students and scholars increasingly use AI tools like ChatGPT to complete their assignments.
“We are now transforming our assessment methods to focus on the analytical and learning strengths of students through skills such as viva, presentation, discussion, and communication,” she added.
