The Capital Development Authority is going to introduce electric carts and valet parking at the new food street in Islamabad’s Blue Area, which is aimed at improving access and traffic flow within the pedestrian zone.

CDA officials said four electric carts will operate inside the car-free promenade in a bid to assist elderly citizens and children who are walking and dining in the area. The authority will also launch a valet parking service along Jinnah Avenue to manage vehicles aimed at reducing congestion near the new attraction, news report revealed. The services are part of a broader Rs240 million initiative to transform an 800-foot stretch of Blue Area into a pedestrian-friendly space. CDA is focusing on walking, casual dining and recreation. CDA will restrict regular vehicle movement inside the zone to enhance safety and comfort for visitors.

The food street forms a key component of the CDA’s larger urban revitalization efforts in central Islamabad. It included pedestrianizing sections of Jinnah Avenue and adding digital entertainment features and food outlets. CDA had started work on this vehicle-free pedestrian zone earlier this year as part of a plan to create a “walk-and-shop” district in the capital.

Officials said the food street’s design has drawn inspiration from prominent global pedestrian zones. The specially designed kiosks will offer a variety of local cuisine. Prepared parking facilities for roughly 1,000 vehicles have already been completed nearby. The additional spots along Fazal-e-Haq Road have been planned to accommodate visitors.

CDA will hire a third-party operator to manage both the valet service and the electric carts and it will conduct stall auctions and oversee daily operations under CDA supervision.
