72% Spike in cybercrime in Spain: Businesses boost Cybersecurity Investment

Cybersecurity is one of the most important and urgent issues in the digital age in which we live. Every day, problems related to cybersecurity failures increase in number and sophistication.

In Spain, without going any further, more than 375,000 computer crimes were registered in 2022, 72% more than in 2019, according to the latest cybersecurity campaign . of the Ministry of the Interior .

In this context, the need for both individuals and organizations to take proactive measures to protect their data and systems is increasing.

David Soto, IT Consultant specialized in Cybersecurity at ERNI Consulting and cybersecurity professor at the Institut Carles Vallbona, explains the relevance of cybersecurity in a hyperconnected society: “ every day there are more devices connected to the Internet and more and more companies are connect to external systems.Cabinet approves National Cyber Security Policy

A good example is “Deep Tech” companies, especially linked to sectors such as science, technology, biology or medicine, which work with highly sensitive data related to patients, clinical trials…, which is why they are a striking target for cyberattacks.

On many occasions, vulnerabilities come from software design errors, for this reason it is so important to create secure applications and systems applying the best cybersecurity practices from the beginning of their development or creation.

Soto details that each line of code that is created for the development of software can be a gateway for hackers , so we work to guarantee the maximum possible security at all points of development”

Precisely security breaches in a company can lead to large economic losses for it , as well as the loss of confidence in the organization and the exposure of confidential data both from the business and its workers.

The SSDLC method to avoid cracks

During the last few years, the Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) approach to developing software has gained ground within companies.

The SDLC methodology involves the implementation of controls and security measures from design, coding and testing to reduce the vulnerability of equipment to cyber attacks.

“At ERNI we always bet on the SSDLC method, since it guarantees that cybersecurity is worked on in all phases of the process,” explains Soto .

“This implies doing it from the taking of requirements at the cybersecurity level, going through risk analysis, product development, validation and testing with review of critical points before final production,” he adds.
