Nepra Okays Rs1.5 per unit extra in electricity bill July 2022
Power consumers are going to pay another increase of Rs 1.5 per unit in their electricity bills for July 2022.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Thursday approved an increase in the power tariff by Rs 1.55 per unit.
This is on account of the second quarter of the financial year 2021-22 recovering Rs 39 billion.
In a decision issued here, Nepra allowed an increase in power tariffs on different heads.
Power companies will recover the cost of variation in capacity charges and variable O&M.
They will also receive charges for use of the system, a market operations fee, and the FCA impact of transmission and distribution losses.
The power regulator, in a statement, said that the authority has approved a positive amount of Rs. 39 billion.
The allowed quarterly change has an impact of around Rs. 1.5447/kWh on a uniform basis for all consumers.
It will not apply to the lifeline and incremental industrial sales eligible for the Industrial Support Package.
Application of increase in Electricity Bill July 2022
Nepra said it would put in place an increase in tariffs from July 1, 2022. The consumers will pay within a three-month period from the date of notification.
In order to work out the instant quarterly adjustments of XWDISCOs, Nepra had obtained details of the actual Power Purchase cost.
CPPA-G provided the information for the 2nd quarter of FY 2021–22, i.e. October to December 2021.
The cost recovered on incremental units over and above the fuel cost is Rs.12.96 less than the reference fuel cost for each month.

Nepra had adjusted it from the quarterly adjustments worked out based on net units.
It will not allow further adjustments for units purchased for incremental sales.
Nepra noted CPPA-G reflects the costs incurred on account of legal litigation charges in the capacity costs billed to DISCOs.
In view of this, it directed CPPA-G to include the said cost in its market operation fees.
Nepra will approve it.
Legal Charges
CPPA-G had included legal charges of Rs.5.4 million in the costs billed to DISCOs for the 2n1 quarter of the FY 202 1-22.
Nepra had decided not to include the legal charges in the instant quarterly adjustments.
Accordingly, the power regulator had not considered the number of legal litigation charges of Rs.5.4 million.
Power regulator further said that CPPA-G in its data has included an amount of Rs.1,946 million on account of capacity charges of KAPCO.
