Take over: Afghan Taliban halt trade with India
Afghan Taliban have halted exports and imports from India through the transit route of Pakistan after they take over Kabul. India has been a key partner of Afghanistan during the Ghani government which made huge investments and was involved in the trade.
Indian Media has reported quoting Ajay Sahai Director General (DG) of Federation of Indian Export Organisation (FIEO) that the Afghan Taliban had currently stopped the movement of cargo through the transit route of Pakistan. In other words, the Taliban have stopped exports and imports of India.
They had also stopped imports from Afghanistan.
FIEO DG told ANI that they were watching closely the development taking place in Afghanistan.
He said that India imported goods from Afghanistan through the transit route of Pakistan.
As of now, as the Afghan Taliban have stopped the movement of cargo to Pakistan, therefore, imports had virtually halted from Afghanistan.
India had made a huge investment in Afghanistan amounting to US$ 3 billion. It undertook 400 projects in Afghanistan. Out of them, some projects are currently underway, Sahai said.
India exported some of the goods from international north sought transport corridor route. He said that such exports were going on now.
Some goods go through the Dubai route also which was also working fine, he said.
Indian exports to Afghanistan amounted to US$ 835 million and imports stood at US$ 510 million in 2021.
India had a strong footprint in Afghanistan during the time of the Ghani government.

It had also used the Kabul government against Pakistan.
All miscreants came from Afghanistan that was involved in insurgencies in Pakistan. Pakistan wanted to sign a transit trade agreement with the Kabul government and Tajikistan.
However, India had manipulated the situation and influenced Afghanistan to stay away from signing any such deal without its involvement.
Afghanistan had called for including India in a transit trade agreement.
However, Pakistan had refused that could not include India in transit trade agreement until it normalized diplomatic relations with Pakistan.
Therefore, transit deals between Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan remained a dream during the Ghani government in Kabul.
Now, the Afghan Taliban have taken over Afghanistan. Indian media has reported that the Afghan Taliban have stopped exports and imports through the transit route of Pakistan.
