Fawad to press cabinet for cultivation of Bhang

Islamabad: The Federal Cabinet under the chair of Prime Minister Imran Khan will approve a summary of the Ministry of Science & Technology for domestication and commercialization of medicinal and industrial Cannabis (Bhang).
In Premier Imran Khan’s direction, the Ministry of Science & Technology has prepared a summary with the Ministry of Narcotics Control. Other relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of National Food Security & Research, Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination, also consulted.
Before finalizing the summary, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Narcotics Control, co-chaired by Azam Khan Swati, Minister for Narcotics Control, and Fawad Hussain Chaudhary for Science & Technology.

The Ministry of Science and Technology has a keen interest in the cultivation of Industrial Hemp. The Hemp has a THC value of less than 0.3%. So it uses for scientific and medicinal purposes. Therefore, the Ministry submitted consolidated recommendations in the shape of a summary for the prime minister’s approval.
Prime Minister Office has advised the Ministry of Science & Technology to seek the Federal Cabinet’s approval, required under section 4 of Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 1997, to cultivate Industrial Hemp.
Pakistan Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (PCSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, has requested industrial hemp cultivation at Herbal/Botanical Park, Jhelum, over 50 acres.
The Ministry of Science and Technology will separately submit PC-I. This will help for up-grading the PCSIR laboratory.
Approval of the Federal Cabinet required under section 4 of the Control of Narcotic Substance Act 1997. After the grant of permission, the cultivation of industrial Hemp started.
