Federal govt accuses Sindh for creating wheat crisis

News Desk
The federal government has accused the Sindh government of creating a wheat crisis following the refusal to release stocks.

Addressing a press conference, Minister for National Food Security and Research, Syed Fakhr Imam said that the provincial government’s continuous refusal created problems for the federal government.

He said that wheat prices would decline if the Sindh government releases wheat stocks.

He said that they were unable to understand why the Sindh government was trying to create the wheat crisis in the country despite the fact the wheat production during the last rabi season exceeded the target.

He said that the federal government has written two letters to the provincial government to release wheat from its stock. In Sindh, the public sector has procured 1.25 million tons of wheat this year, whereas it did not procure a single grain last year.

He said that the Sindh government is not releasing its share of wheat, increasing Sindh’s problems. He said that the Sindh government should also take measures in this regard.

Prices of wheat and wheat flour will be stabilized when the Sindh government will release its share of wheat in the market, he said.

Information Minister Shibli Faraz also spoke on occasion and criticized the performance of the Sindh government.

The Sindh government has done nothing for the people of Sindh; they are just playing politics. The handling of Karachi’s situation following torrential rains in the city is evident in the government’s performance. The situation in rural Sindh is deplorable, where malnutrition among the population is increasing.

Responding to a question, Faraz said that the Sindh government was not honoring its mandate. He advised the provincial government to improve its performance before the governor’s rule was discussed.
