Fresh Wave of Protest Erupted in Iran

A fresh wave of protests has erupted in Iran, with university students leading demonstrations against the government. The protests, reported on February 24, 2026, have been ongoing for several days, involving students from prominent institutions such as Tehran University, Amir Kabir University, and Sharif University.

Students have been chanting slogans like “We do not want this government,” openly opposing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and the current regime. Demonstrators have also waved the pre-revolutionary Lion and Sun flag, a symbol increasingly used by opposition groups to express dissent against the government.

The protests primarily originated within university campuses but have spilled onto the streets, where clashes with security forces have been reported in some areas. This resurgence of demonstrations follows a significant wave of protests last month, which saw a harsh government crackdown resulting in hundreds of deaths and thousands of arrests.

The student-led protests signify a growing political movement against the Iranian government, highlighting ongoing unrest and dissatisfaction among the youth and academic communities. The situation remains tense as authorities continue to respond to the demonstrations.
