Pakistan, Turkmenistan in Row over Gas Prices under TAPI
Pakistan and Turkmenistan are in a row over gas Prices and the cost of on multibillion dollars Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline project.
Pakistan has asked Turkmenistan to revise the cost and tariff of the multi-billion dollars Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline project.
The Federal Minister for Energy Engr. Khurram Dastgir has delivered Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s message of accommodating Turkmenistan in the project.
During the meeting with visiting delegation of Turkmenistan, the minister expressed the need for the input of Pakistan in the pre-feasibility studies regarding the latest supply-demand analysis, the revision of project costs, and the cost of the tariff. Islamabad should convey Ashgabat to execute the TAPI Project
Minister stated that the directions from the prime minister were to hold the meeting of the technical groups as soon as possible.
The three goals of the technical group meeting are to keep the least cost for Pakistan, the two-way channel should remain open and to keep the wider regional context in mind
The Turkmenistan delegation visited Power Division on 7th June 2023 to meet the Federal Minister for Energy Engr. Khurram Dastgir along with some officials of the division. The delegation comprised Daler Jum’a, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, Ismatullo Nasredin, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Manuchehr Safarzoda, Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan and Olimjon Azimov, Senior Specialist Foreign Affairs Department of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan. The delegation from Pakistan included officials from the Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Central Power Purchasing Authority (CPPA). The topic of discussion was the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline. The progress and future developments of the projects were discussed in the meeting. The mutual relations between the two countries were also discussed.
