General Elections 2024: Cabinet Approves Deployment of Pakistan Army
The federal cabinet has approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces troops for the peaceful conduct of the general elections in 2024.
The Ministry of Interior recommended deploying Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces troops to ensure the peaceful conduct of elections. The Federal Cabinet meeting was chaired by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar.
The caretaker federal cabinet extensively discussed proposals regarding the restructuring and digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue.
The Prime Minister directed the establishment of an inter-ministerial committee under the supervision of the Federal Finance Minister based on the opinions of the cabinet members regarding the proposals for FBR reforms.

The committee is expected to present its recommendations in the next federal cabinet meeting.
The Cabinet appreciated the efforts of the caretaker Federal Finance Minister, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, for increasing tax revenue, improving the tax-GDP ratio, and presenting detailed proposals for the administrative structure of the Federal Board of Revenue.
The Prime Minister and all cabinet members jointly supported these proposals for FBR reforms, reiterating the position that the caretaker government should play its full role in completing the FBR reform agenda.
On the Ministry of Finance’s recommendation, the Federal Cabinet approved the extension of Tahir Hussain Qureshi’s tenure as the President of SMS Bank for three months or until the formal closure of the institution.

The Federal Cabinet approved the formation of a search committee for the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University Islamabad, based on the Ministry of National Health’s recommendation. The minister will head the National Health Committee.
The Federal Cabinet endorsed the decisions made in the Economic Coordination Committee meeting held on 09-01-2024.
The Federal Cabinet also approved the decisions made in the meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases held on 09-01-2024 and 17-01-2024.
