Why Gilgit-Baltistan’s Independence Day Matters
Since the late 1940s, Gilgit-Baltistan has maintained a distinct identity within Pakistan, grappling with political and constitutional issues. Celebrating its Independence Day is a reaffirmation of the region’s unique cultural identity and its ongoing integration into the country’s socio-economic framework. For Pakistanis nationwide, these festivities underscore the importance of unity and regional development, especially in areas critical to national security and economic connectivity, such as those bordering China and Central Asia.
