Govt Finally Sets Meeting to Finalise 5G Plans
The federal government is set to hold a crucial meeting of the Auction Advisory Committee to finalise plans for the first 5G spectrum auction in Pakistan.
As per sources, the session is likely to take place later this week or early next week, following the return of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.
Officials said the meeting will determine the roadmap for conducting the auction, which is now expected in February or March of next year.
The 5G consultant of PTA is scheduled to present a detailed report covering the technical and policy framework for the auction.
The presentation will include a Market Readiness Assessment, Spectrum Valuation and Pricing Strategy, Band Allocation Plan, Coverage Obligations, and Regulatory Recommendations.
This comprehensive framework will guide the government in structuring the auction, ensuring transparency, competitiveness, and sustainable rollout of next-generation mobile technology.

The auction had initially been planned for the end of this year but was delayed due to ongoing legal disputes and regulatory hurdles.
A major challenge includes the pending merger of Ufone and Telenor, which is under PTA review after approval by the Competition Commission of Pakistan.
Authorities expect a final decision on the merger soon, which could remove one of the primary obstacles to launching the 5G auction efficiently.
Industry experts warn that operator hesitation, high spectrum costs, infrastructure gaps, and limited affordability of 5G devices could slow adoption in Pakistan.
Stakeholders have recommended rational pricing, deferred payment options, and investor-friendly policies to ensure a successful rollout and attract private sector participation.
The government aims to finalise the auction structure and policy guidelines during the meeting, setting the stage for Pakistan’s long-awaited entry into 5G connectivity.
