Govt seeks services of firms for Islands City

Islamabad: Amid protest from Sindh province, the PTI government has decided to seek local and international firms for Islands City projects to be executed by Island Development Authority Karachi.
President Dr. Arif Alivi had promulgated Ordinance to set up Pakistan Islands Development Authority, which led to voicing strong concerns by the PPP government in Sindh, which terms it a move to occupy the provincial resources by launching new projects on islands neighboring Karachi.
Sources told Newztodays.com that Maritime Division is in the process of preparing necessary documents/RFP to attract local and/or international firms for the project of launching new projects on islands near Karachi.

Meanwhile, officials of the Maritime Affairs Division said that the Pakistan Islands Development Authority Ordinance,2020, had been promulgated on August 31, 2020, by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The federal cabinet had already approved the establishment of the Pakistan Islands Development Authority.
Appointment of Chairman Pakistan Islands Development Authority
The Prime Minister Office had directed to place the acting Chairman/Chairman of the Authority’s terms and conditions before the cabinet for approval.
The post of Chairman, Pakistan Islands Development Authority, was vacant. Therefore, before advertising, prescribing terms and conditions, and the evaluation committee’s constitution to recommend/appoint the acting Chairman/Chairman, Pakistan Islands Development Authority approved by the Cabinet.
The Maritime Affairs Division had solicited the approval of the Cabinet to the terms and conditions for acting Chairman/Chairman, advertisement for Chairman, and evaluation committee, under Section 10 of the Pakistan Islands Development Authority Ordinance, 2020.
Meanwhile, officials said the Prime Minister could appoint an Acting Chairman as a stop-gap arrangement until a regular Chairman’s appointment.
Lastly, the cabinet has approved terms and conditions for the appointment of Chairman Pakistan Islands Development Authority Karachi.
