Historic All-Spin Attack Sets New ODI Record in Dhaka

The West Indies made history in men’s One-Day International cricket by becoming the first team ever to bowl all 50 overs exclusively with spin.

Their record-breaking display unfolded during the match against Bangladesh at Dhaka’s Shere Bangla National Stadium, where conditions heavily favoured slow bowlers.

The Caribbean side fielded five spinners, each using variations, flight, and control instead of pace, to complete the entire 50-over spell successfully.

This bold strategy showcased both meticulous planning and smart adaptation to Dhaka’s spin-friendly pitch, which rewarded turn and accuracy throughout the innings.

Bangladesh scored 213 runs for seven wickets in their innings, struggling to find momentum against the relentless pressure from the spinners.

Without a single fast bowler in their lineup, the West Indies maintained control through disciplined bowling, sharp spin, and consistent accuracy across all overs.

Previously, the record for most spin overs in a men’s ODI was 44, held by Sri Lanka in matches against multiple opponents between 1996 and 2004.

The West Indies’ all-spin approach in Dhaka shattered that long-standing record, adding a unique chapter to the evolving tactics of modern ODI cricket.
