iCAUR V27 Running Cost Analysis in Pakistan

The iCAUR V27, a newly introduced range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) in Pakistan, offers a unique blend of electric and petrol-powered driving with a starting price of Rs 12,499,000. Featuring a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine working primarily as a generator alongside two electric motors, it claims to deliver a combined driving distance of up to 1,000 kilometers. But prospective buyers need to understand that its actual operational expenses depend heavily on the source of energy used—electricity versus petrol.

Electric vs Petrol Running Costs

The V27 sports a 34.31 kWh battery providing an estimated electric-only driving range of approximately 150 kilometers under NEDC testing. Charging the vehicle at home at Rs 40 per kWh and an estimated 90% charging efficiency results in an approximate cost of Rs 10.17 per kilometer. Accordingly, a full battery recharge costs around Rs 1,525.

However, when the battery depletes, the petrol engine kicks in to generate electricity. Based on data from iCAUR’s UAE sources, the petrol consumption at low battery levels is about 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers. Considering the current petrol price of Rs 362 per liter as of November 5, 2026, the running cost rises sharply to Rs 24.98 per kilometer during petrol operation. Filling the 60-liter fuel tank would amount to Rs 21,720 at this fuel rate.

Estimated Monthly and Annual Energy Expenses

Assuming an average yearly travel distance of 20,000 kilometers, three usage scenarios illustrate the V27’s variable running costs:

  • Exclusive electric charging: Rs 203,319 annually
  • Mixed use (70% electric, 30% petrol): Rs 292,191 annually
  • Predominantly petrol-driven: Rs 499,560 annually

This suggests that drivers consistently charging the SUV electrically at home can significantly reduce their energy expenses compared to those relying more on petrol. Even slight changes in the electricity tariff impact running costs; with electricity priced between Rs 30 to Rs 80 per kWh, monthly expenses under the 70% electric scenario could vary from approximately Rs 21,384 to Rs 36,209.

Implications for Pakistani Buyers

In Pakistan’s context, where fuel prices remain high and power outages are frequent, the V27’s cost efficiency largely hinges on reliable access to affordable electricity and regular charging habits. Buyers need to weigh the potential savings on energy against additional ownership costs such as petrol engine maintenance, battery upkeep, insurance, and tyres—especially since the vehicle runs on 21-inch tyres, which may have limited local availability or higher replacement costs.

Azka Ali, an automotive analyst, underscores the importance of understanding the V27’s energy consumption balance by noting, “The biggest question for Pakistani buyers is not simply how far the V27 can travel, but how much of that distance it can cover on affordable electricity.” As this model is new to the market, familiarity with local service intervals, warranty policies, and resale value will develop over time.

Overall, the iCAUR V27 presents a compelling option for environmentally conscious consumers who can maximize electric usage. However, for those unable to rely predominantly on electric charging, the petrol-related running costs could be a significant financial consideration.
