Internet Service Disrupted Across the Country

Staff Report:The internet users belonging to the PTCL and the Ufone data consumer faced internet service disruptions across the country on Wednesday, as users reported outages and erratic service speed in several parts of the country.


Incidentally the disruption on Wednesday was different from the earlier reported internet outage as there was no reported physical damage to either the optic fibre network of the PTCL or the international undersea internet cable systems.IT Ministry blames SBP for the poor quality of the internet


Sources in the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confided that it was a technical fault and there could have been a suspected cyber attack at the PTCL fibre optic system.


Meanwhile at around 10 pm the PTA has claimed that the matter has been largely brought under control.


“Exact issue is being investigated by PTA to avoid such instances in future,” the statement by the regulator added.


Earlier, spokesperson PTCL issued a statement that the network of the company was facing data outage in various cities due to which connectivity has been affected.


In a statement, PTA said that their teams were actively working to address and rectify the issue at the earliest.


At the same time the telecom regulator issued a general alert at social media platform ‘Instagram’ that internet services suffered in some parts of the country due to fault in the PTCL system.


The PTA said that internet and broadband services may suffer during peak hours.


The PTA further said that at the moment the concerned teams were fixing the fault and PTA has been monitoring the situation till internet/ broadband services are back to normal for all users,” the statement by the PTA said.


While, the services started to be function normally by evening on Wednesday, but neither the PTA now the PTCL responded to the query over the reasons for the technical problems.


The UK based global internet monitor ‘netblocks’ confirmed that live network data witnessed nationwide internet disruptions in Pakistan.
“Metrics show national connectivity at 24 percent of the ordinary levels,” netblock stated at X (erstwhile Twitter) Wednesday noon. Ends
