Huawei is eying investment in 5G Technology in Pakistan

Chinese Tech Giant Huawei has reiterated its support and investment in 5G technology in Pakistan.

 Mr. Ethan Sun, the CEO of Huawei Pakistan, met with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, and reiterated its firm commitment to provide services and equipment for launching 5G technology in Pakistan.PTCL inked deals with Huawei to upgrade the network

Both sides also discussed ongoing and potential collaborations aimed at advancing the ICT ecosystem and digital economy in Pakistan.

Pakistani caretaker minister had recently announced to launch of 5G technology in the next ten months.

Chinese firm Huawei is ready to provide services to Pakistan to launch 5G technology.

The Pakistani government also claimed that it was ready to launch in the next ten months.

But the IT companies are reluctant to make investments this time due to the economic crisis especially the higher energy prices that had increased the cost of doing business.

Secondly, the government had linked the fee of the spectrum with the dollar and IT firms were reluctant to make investments following this formula.

The Prime Minister commended Huawei for its significant role in driving digital transformation in Pakistan and emphasized the importance of technological progress and expanded ICT opportunities for both the youth and women, envisioning a brighter future for the country.

Mr. Ethan Sun highlighted Huawei’s commitment to innovation and its global vision, underscoring the establishment of the Global Service Centre (GSC) R&D in Pakistan, which currently employs over 2000 professionals.

He also emphasized Huawei’s dedication to nurturing ICT talent, fostering innovation, and promoting technology adoption.

He expressed admiration for the exceptional skills of Pakistani engineers and the untapped potential of the youth to contribute to Huawei’s initiatives and global connectivity efforts.

Dr. Omar Saif, the Federal Minister of IT & Telecommunications, praised Huawei Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to investing in the local market and its support for the government’s initiatives to provide opportunities and development platforms for young Pakistanis. He emphasized the importance of sustainable development in Pakistan’s ICT industry.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister and Huawei discussed the need to empower local partners and leverage Huawei’s expertise in 5G, cloud computing, and other advanced technologies.

They explored opportunities for implementing these technologies effectively and sharing best practices, aiming to accelerate the digital transformation of various sectors and industries in Pakistan while harnessing the talents of the local ICT community.
