Islamabad, Rawalpindi Face Internet Blackout Over Security

The people in Islamabad and Rawalpindi are facing suspension of internet services due to TLP protest in Islamabad.

The federal government has suspended mobile internet services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi due to ongoing protests and growing security concerns due to TLP Protest in Islamabad.

According to an official letter issued by the Interior Ministry, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi approved the suspension to ensure law and order amid rising tensions.

The order, sent to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, took effect on Friday night and will remain in place until further notice from authorities.

Residents in several parts of Rawalpindi reported connectivity disruptions as police tightened security and placed barriers across major routes leading into Islamabad.

In a related move, the Punjab government has enforced Section 144 for ten days, restricting gatherings of four or more people across the province.

A notification from the Punjab Home Department stated that the restrictions aim to prevent potential unrest and maintain public safety during the current situation.

The order excludes prayers, weddings, funerals, and official gatherings, while completely banning weapons display, processions, and the use of loudspeakers in public areas.

Separately, the Rawalpindi District Administration extended Section 144 in the district until October 17, imposing stricter limits on public assembly and movement.

The directive also bans pillion riding and declares any attempt to remove police barriers or provoke unrest as a punishable criminal offence.

Authorities have warned that carrying weapons, sticks, or explosives will result in legal action as they work to prevent any law and order breakdown.

In Islamabad, multiple entry points to the Red Zone have been sealed off with containers placed at Serena Chowk, Express Chowk, and Nadra Chowk.

Traffic flow between Rawalpindi and Islamabad has been severely disrupted as Faizabad Interchange and Zero Point remain closed amid the escalating security lockdown.

These measures have caused widespread inconvenience to citizens who face restricted mobility and disrupted mobile communication services in both cities.
