IT Ministry Drafting Telecom Competition Rules

Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has told the Senate that the Telecom Competition Rules required under law have not yet been notified officially.

The information was shared by Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja in a written reply submitted to the upper house of Parliament today.

According to the reply, drafting of the Telecom Competition Rules is underway after reviewing regulatory frameworks and international experiences to align with best practices globally.

The proposed rules aim to create a structured framework promoting fair competition, addressing anti-competitive practices, and defining mechanisms for market assessment and regulatory remedies processes.

Once finalised, the draft rules will be shared with relevant public and private sector stakeholders to seek feedback through consultations before further legislative processing begins.

The ministry said stakeholder input would be considered before the rules are processed under the prescribed legislative procedure for formal notification as required by law.
