Abhishek Sharma’s participation in India’s high-stakes T20 World Cup match against Pakistan remains uncertain after the left-handed opener was hospitalised earlier this week due to a stomach infection, Indian media report.

Sharma was admitted with gastric complications but has since been discharged and rejoined the Indian squad, although concerns persist regarding his physical strength and readiness ahead of the crucial encounter in Colombo.

Reports indicate that Sharma continues to experience weakness, with the Indian medical team closely monitoring his recovery to ensure he is fit for selection during Friday’s pre-match training session in Colombo.

The final decision on his inclusion in the playing XI will be taken after the team’s training session, with selectors assessing his health, energy levels, and preparedness for the high-pressure contest.

Sharma recently shared a video with pacer Arshdeep Singh, explaining that he had been limited to plain rice and lentils during his illness, resulting in a weight loss of around two kilograms.

The much-anticipated India-Pakistan T20 World Cup clash is scheduled for Sunday in Colombo, with the Indian squad set to arrive from Delhi later tonight to intensify preparations for the marquee fixture.

Sharma has been a prolific scorer in T20 internationals, accumulating 1,297 runs in 39 matches at a strike rate of 194.95, including eight half-centuries and two centuries, making him a key batter in India’s lineup.

Historically, India and Pakistan have faced each other in 16 T20 internationals, with India winning 13 times, while Pakistan has won three; in T20 World Cups, India lead six wins to Pakistan’s single victory.
