The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to launch a home solarisation scheme for merged districts, aiming to provide affordable electricity solutions to entitled households.

According to an official document, the scheme will offer solar systems to 120,000 eligible households, either free of cost or through easy instalment plans.

Each selected household will receive a two-kilowatt solar kit, including an inverter and other required accessories, as outlined in the project papers.

Project estimates show that the cost of each solar kit ranges between Rs 255,000 and Rs 300,000, according to the official papers.

The total cost of the solarisation project is estimated at 13 billion rupees, with funding to be provided by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

The scheme will be implemented across Bajaur, Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, Mohmand, and the North and South Waziristan districts of the province areas.

According to the proposal, the government has introduced refundable and non-refundable categories to determine the payment structure for the provided solar systems.

Under the refundable category, subscribers will pay 36 instalments of approximately Rs 8,300 per month, while no payment is required in the non-refundable category.

The provincial government will select eligible beneficiaries, while the Bank of Khyber will choose vendors and PEDO will provide technical assistance support.
