Jazz defaults to Rs 25 billion Tax
FBR warns CEO Jazz to face arrest for not clearing arrears

M/S Pakistan Mobile Communication Ltd (PMCL)–Jazz Pakistan–has defaulted Rs 25 billion tax.
Moreover, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has warned Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PMCL to face arrest in case of a payment default.
Deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue FBR Large Taxpayer Office Islamabad has issued a notice to CEO Jazz.
Dear Taxpayer, it is established that the sum of Rs. 25,393,653,480 is due from you on account of tax, he said.
Therefore, he asked to pay these arrears of tax by October 28, 2020, and produce the necessary evidence to that effect. So, he also warned to initiate proceedings to recover the amount.
Meanwhile, he informed us about taking different measures to recover the money. So, these measures include attachment and sale of moveable or immoveable property.

As a result of the failure, FBR would appoint a receiver to manage the moveable or immoveable property. He could face arrest and detain in person for a period of six months.
Moreover, he directed not to sell, mortgage, charge, issue, or otherwise deal with any property without permission in writing.
Business Premises Sealed
As a result of the non-payment of dues, FBR has also ordered to seal the telecom firm Mobilink’s business premises till the payment of dues. The deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue said that Mobilink had been refraining from paying outstanding. So, he has decided to sell the business premises of Jazz.
The spokesperson said that Jazz is a law-abiding and responsible corporate citizen. Our contribution to Pakistan’s economy over the past 25 years is significant.
We have received a notice from FBR this afternoon. Jazz has made tax submissions based on legal interpretations of the tax owed. We will review and take measures under our legal obligations and will collaborate with all concerned institutions for an early resolution of this issue. – Spokesperson Jazz
