Mohammad Yousuf urges Babar Azam to get overseas coaching
Former Pakistani cricket star Mohammad Yousuf has advised Babar Azam to consider specialized coaching abroad to address his ongoing struggles in form. Yousuf emphasized that seeking training in countries like England or Australia could help the top-order batsman surmount technical issues rather than continuing to play in domestic matches.
Technical challenges affecting Babar Azam’s performance
Babar Azam has been facing a slump highlighted by his disappointing performance in the recent ODI tri-series at home against England and Sri Lanka. The 32-year-old managed just 118 runs in five games, averaging 23.60, and was dismissed for a duck in the final against Sri Lanka. These numbers underscore the difficulties he is currently encountering with his batting technique.
Why overseas coaching matters for Babar Azam and Pakistan cricket
Yousuf stressed that continuing to bat in local red-ball competitions like the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy could exacerbate Babar’s mental fatigue and diminish his confidence. Instead, he thinks exposure to high-quality coaching programs overseas would provide the best environment for correction and growth.
“I believe Babar should skip first-class cricket momentarily and focus on technical refinement with top coaches in challenging conditions abroad,” Yousuf remarked in a social media post. He added that Babar remains Pakistan’s premier batsman, endowed with natural talent, and that with focused coaching, there is every chance for a strong comeback.
This recommendation is not new; Yousuf made a similar suggestion four years ago when Babar faced form issues but it was largely unheeded back then. The former cricketer’s renewed appeal resonates with the current urgency for Pakistan cricket to nurture its leading batsman carefully.
Significance for Pakistani cricket fans
Babar Azam has been a pillar of Pakistan’s batting line-up and his form dip has concerned many supporters and experts alike. As Pakistan gears up for crucial international fixtures, his revival is vital for the team’s competitiveness on the global stage. Yousuf’s counsel underlines the importance of prioritizing personalized coaching in foreign conditions to maintain Pakistan’s cricketing legacy through its key players.
