Pakistan Seeks to Deepen Strategic Ties with Belarus; NA Speaker

NA passes Elections (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024

ISLAMABAD: Today, the National Assembly approved the Elections (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024. This bill was introduced by Bilal Azhar Kayani.


Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar stated that making laws is the exclusive right of the parliament. He affirmed that the bill aligns with the constitutional framework.bills for the month of July has been extended by 10 days


In response to a calling attention notice, the Law Minister informed the assembly that efforts are being made at an accelerated pace to ensure that passports are issued in a timely manner.


He mentioned that relevant equipment, including twenty advanced printers, is being acquired to increase the passport printing capacity to over fifty-five thousand per day.

He noted that the installation of this equipment is set to begin by the end of September this year and expressed optimism that passport issuance will start to improve in October.


Four bills were presented to the assembly today. These bills included: The Acid and Burn Crime Bill, the National Commission on the Rights of Child Amendment Bill, the Islamabad Capital Territory Child Marriage Restraint Bill, and the Ravi Institute Sahiwal Bill. The chair referred these bills to the appropriate standing committees.


Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar also presented the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government Amendment Bill, 2024.


In addition, the National Assembly passed a resolution urging India to halt overt human rights abuses in the Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and to enforce the UN Security Council resolutions so that the Kashmiri people can determine their future through an unbiased and equitable plebiscite under the United Nations’ supervision.


The resolution, introduced by Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, voiced solidarity with the oppressed Kashmiri population and called for the release of detained Kashmiri political leaders.


The resolution criticized the large deployment of Indian troops in IIOJK and strongly denounced the unilateral and unlawful actions of August 5, 2019.


In honoring the struggle and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people, the resolution reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast political, diplomatic, and moral support for their legitimate right to self-determination.


At the beginning of the session, the assembly offered a moment of silence for the late MNA Mumtaz Mustafa and those who lost their lives in recent floods.
