Now, the concerns have been raised of security and PCB chairman who also holds the office of interior minister has tried to convince the Sri Lankan players about security arrangement so that they could continue series as per schedule.
According to the PCB spokesperson, the chairman was briefing the Sri Lankan players on Wednesday on security arrangements and assuring them of full safety measures.
After the meeting, the PCB was supposed to issue an official fact sheet, and the board’s media department was to release the official stance regarding the discussions.
It is worth mentioning that Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has already met the Sri Lankan High Commissioner and the team manager to guarantee foolproof security.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has also instructed its players to complete their tour of Pakistan as scheduled.
At a press briefing, the PCB chairman gave assurances that security around the team had been significantly strengthened in Rawalpindi and the wider region.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket has warned players they could face two years ban over abandoning the tour.
The second ODI is scheduled on Thursday.
This incident has followed a history of security challenges in Pakistan relating to international cricket. Teams largely avoided Pakistani venues after the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore.
If the Sri Lanka team departs prematurely, it may strain relations between the two boards and raise questions over hosting logistics, player safety protocols and insurance coverage.
