The Punjab Prisons Department has launched a digital initiative aimed at modernizing the inmate visitation process through the introduction of a dedicated mobile application.
The system is designed to simplify and secure prisoner meetings, offering greater convenience for inmates and their families across Punjab’s prison network.
Officials stated that the newly developed Mulaqat App allows families to book appointments in advance and connect virtually with inmates through a secure digital platform.
This initiative will significantly reduce the need for in-person visits while ensuring a more efficient and organized visitation experience for both families and prison authorities.
Dedicated digital centers equipped with modern facilities will be established inside various prisons to facilitate smooth and uninterrupted online interactions.

The department has instructed all jail superintendents to implement the new system promptly and ensure proper staff training for managing digital appointments.
Officers responsible for the Prisoners Management Information System have already received specialized instruction, supported by tutorial videos for better operational understanding.
To assist visitors, trained staff will be stationed in jail waiting areas, while separate counters will handle app-based pre-booked appointments efficiently.
Awareness materials, including banners and informational posters, will be displayed in all prisons to help families understand and access the new digital service.
