The move is aimed at providing encrypted communications for official amid rising security concerns.
This was informed during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecom.
National Information Technology Board chief executive Faisal Iqbal Ratyal briefed lawmakers that the BEEP application has been fully developed and certified by all relevant government agencies.
He said the National Computer Emergency Response Team has formally declared it for official deployment.
According to the NITB chief, BEEP offers stronger security features with full encryption for text messaging and video calls used by government officials.
Ratyal explained that popular applications such as WhatsApp encrypt text messages, video calls and often involve different protocols.
He said BEEP extends end-to-end encryption to video communications, while making it suitable for sensitive government discussions.
The NITB chief said BEEP will operate on a usage-based fee model and efforts are underway to make the platform financially self-sustaining over time.
However, the Secretary for Information Technology and Telecommunication said that revenue generation was not the primary objective.
The main priority remains secure, efficient, and reliable communication across state institutions,” he said adding that Pakistan’s public sector has expanded rapidly over the past decade as digital governance initiatives accelerated.
According to government data, federal and provincial departments now process millions of official files electronically each year.
Earlier, the government had launched the federal e-Office system to reduce paperwork and improve transparency. Officials believe integrating BEEP will further strengthen internal coordination and reduce operational risks.
