Pakistan, Turkmenistan to make headway on TAPI Gas Prices Review

Pakistan and Turkmenistan are likely to make headway on gas prices review issues relating to Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan and India (TAPI) gas pipeline project.
United States (US) has been backing this project and even Afghan Taliban have also assured support for this project.
A delegation of Turkeminanstan is here in Pakistan to resolve issues of gas prices review and delivery point of TAPI gas pipeline project.
Pakistan had taken up matters of gas price review and gas delivery point with Turkmenistan.
Pakistan claims that it was importing LNG at cheaper rates from another source. Therefore, it wants Turkmenistan to cut gas prices.
LNG Import
Pakistan is currently increasing its share of LNG. At present, there are two LNG terminals with 1.2 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) LNG handling capacity.
Two more LNG terminals with 1.2 bcfd handling capacity are in pipeline.
TAPI pipeline is a mega project to provide sustainable gas supply to Pakistan.
A technical group on TAPI will meet on Tuesday to discuss the review of gas prices.
According to the statement, Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Vepa Hajiyev lead a high-level delegation of Turkmenistan.
It held an extensive meeting with the Pakistani delegation. Federal Minister for Energy Mr. Hammad Azhar represented the Pakistani side.
Both sides discussed various aspects of the flagship Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline.
Two sides also discussed the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line.
Minister Hammad Azhar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the TAPI project and stressed the need to expedite the project.
Turkmenistan’s side reiterated the same devotion to the multi-lateral project.
Minister Hammad Azhar further expressed the resolve of the Government of Pakistan for the early completion of the project.
It will meet Pakistan’s need for additional supplies of natural gas. He requested the Turkmenistan side to take all steps for the early completion of the project.
Meeting of Technical Group on TAPI Gas Pipeline Project
Pakistan agreed to hold the meeting of the technical working group on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line in a week.
It will work around the pre-feasibility parameters of the project.
They also decided to hold a meeting of the technical working group on TAPI.
The group will propose the future roadmap given the changing dynamics of the project.
